Synopsis
English:
Metin, a teacher, arrives in a village in Şırnak, in eastern Türkiye, where he is to teach as part of his compulsory service. The children grow up speaking Kurdish as their mother tongue but in school are taught in Turkish. They fall behind academically due to lack of proper communication with their teachers, who humiliate, ignore, and underestimate them. Metin takes Kurdish lessons from the school janitor, Eyüp, and so learns to communicate with his students. He not only connects with them but becomes closer to the local people.

Director's Bio
English:
Erdal Salihoğlu was born in Şırnak, Türkiye, in 1999. He graduated from the Department of Film Design and Directing at Dokuz Eylül University and is continuing his studies in the master’s program in film design. His first short films were Purgatori (2021), Sürgü (2021), and Where Is My Mother’s House? (2022), which explore themes of rural life, family, belonging, memory, and social reality. Bawer, which he wrote as well as directed, is his first feature film and has been screened at numerous national and international film festivals, winning many awards. In addition to independent filmmaking, Salihoğlu works for film and TV, in costume, art, directing, and production departments.
