Synopsis
This documentary follows seven teenage Yazidi girls who survived the 2014 ISIS genocide. It traces their five-year journey from refugee camps in Turkey to resettlement in Europe, showing the effects of genocide, displacement, and the challenges of migration. The film uses an innovative mixture of methods—illustration, graphics,maps, archival research, self-storytelling, and first-person perspectives—allowing the girls to share their own experiences of survival and adaptation. It documents the lasting trauma of genocide, the gendered and intersectional impacts of displacement, and the resilience of these young women as they turn their cameras on themselves, sharing their survival and growth.

Director's Bio
Shilan Saadi, originally from Mahabad, Rojohilati Kurdistan, holds a BA in cinema from Sureh University in Tehran. In Denmark, she participated in a documentary filmmaking workshop titled “personal language in documentary film” with Arne Bro, and a documentary filmmaking workshop with Asghar Farhadi. In 2019 she was selected for Berlinale Talents. Currently based in Canada, she has served on juries and selection committees for international film festivals, including the Amed, New York Kurdish, London Kurdish, and Moscow Kurdish. Through socially engaged documentary and narrative storytelling, her work explores identity, memory, forced migration, and the experiences of women affected by violence. Her previous documentaries include: Xeyali Winbu (The Lost Dream) (2006), My Grandma`s Daughter (2014), and Cil u Bergi Mukriyan (Clothes of Mukrian) (2018). She is a member of Iranian Documentary Filmmakers’ Association.
