Sounds of Solidarity Ensemble
On April 15, the Sounds of Solidarity Ensemble performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London, “to express our grief and sorrow for the thousands of people who died, and millions of people severely affected by the Turkey & Syria earthquakes.”
This excerpt shows them singing ”Helîme,” a lament about about separation, longing, and helplessness.
Then they sang “Arix,” recalling the victims of the 1939 Erzincan earthquake, which caused tens of thousands of casualties in, among other places, Arix village, which was located on the earthquake fault line. Many people died in the harsh winter conditions. People in Arix have not forgotten the catastrophe and sing laments at the gravesites.
The event was a great success, writes Suna Alan, “filling the Royal Albert Hall with the most amazing audience who made us feel hugged.”
