Koma Amed's New Release

On February 1 the band Koma Amed announced that they are reunited and released an acoustic version of the song “Êvare” on YouTube

Koma Amed was founded in 1988 by medical students from Ankara and Hacettepe universities in Ankara. The original members  were Ahmet Kaya, Fikri Kutlay, Rohat Kutlay, Evdılmelik Şexbekir, Gülşen Çetin, Savaş Çakmak, and Mustafa Kart. They performed Kurdish songs and contempoarary folk music in a folk-jazz style. Koma Amed was one of the first bands to be called Kom (“band” in Kurdish) in the 1990s.

In 1990 they released their first album, Kulîlka Azadî, which was banned.

In 1993 the group moved to Istanbul and worked at the Mesopotamia Culture Center. 

In 1997 they released their album Dergûş to great success, selling over 400,000. It is their best-known album and was very influential. But afterward some members had to seek asylum in Germany, and the band broke up.

The members of the new band are The band members are Serhat Çarnewa, Süleyman Çarnewa, Memo Gül, and Mazlum Rewşen.
