“With this festival,” said the organizers, “we will show that the Kurds are not just a people demanding their political rights, but a people with a deep-rooted culture that served as one of the cradles of civilization.” Kurdistan is one of the oldest cultures of Mesopotamia, they noted—its lands saw the first civilizations and the birth of agriculture. The organizers invited all to come and discover Kurdistan’s rich and varied culture its music, songs and dances, its cuisine, cinema, and theatrical performances.
The festival was organized by the Kurdish Democratic Council in France (CDK-F), in partnership with the Institute for Reflection and Studies on Kurdistan (IREK), the Kurdistan Arts and Culture Association (ACK), and the Danielle Mitterrand Foundation. It was sponsored by the city of Paris as well as by the 10th and 18th arrondissements and the municipalities of Montreuil and Grigny.
