Synopsis
In the Kurdish city of Amed (aka Diyarbakir), working-class life is a daily struggle that places enormous pressure on families. One family—Mahmoud, the father; Fatma, the mother; and Azad, their son—dreams of different ways of living while stuck in the open hostility of their family relationship. The film aims to reveal the urban class conflicts along with the cultural and linguistic conflicts within Diyarbakir.

Emeer Hassanpour is an ethnographic filmmaker and a critical writer on cinema, literature, and political economy. He studied cinema at the University of Southern California. His film credits include The Eunuch (2017), Pelicans (2010), M for Motherhood (2020), The Death Dance (2021), and Hejar (2019). He also writes cinematic reviews and analyses for magazines including Prisma and Flux. He is a co-founder and chief editor of Cine Bizarre magazine as well as former president of the Chicago Experimental Film Society. His research focuses on critical praxis, colonialism, and Marxian aesthetics.

Director's Bio
Anvar Hassanpour, an independent Kurdish filmmaker and scholar, studied cinema and documentary media at Northwestern University. Over the course of two decades he has made and produced documentaries, experimental films, film essays, and narrative works. His research centers on the concept of totality in film production, analyzing its influence on films’ form and content. As an immigrant filmmaker, he also addresses the intricate intersections of film production’s political economy.
