Cansu Karabiyik is a Kurdish comedian. She’ll be recording her first comedy special at the New York Comedy Club in Gramercy on September 21, 2025.
In her hourlong stand-up show, she dives deep into culture, her life in the Kurdish diaspora in Denmark, and the awkward moments that can arise when things get lost in translation. As an immigrant, she reflects on the real-life challenges of navigating diverse cultures while bringing an honest perspective that pushes boundaries. Here’s a clip from a recent show.
Until recently, Cansu lived in the UK, where she performed in more than 15 cities and was a regular on the London circuit. She founded the nonprofit Laugh 4 Change, an organization that performed in 10 UK cities to raise relief aid for refugees in Greece. Laugh 4 Change performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2019, hosted by Cansu. At the same edition of the festival, she produced the highly acclaimed comedy trio show FootDarks. In 2018, Cansu performed on The Guilty Feminist Live Tour, an award-winning podcast and live show hosted by Deborah Frances-White.
