Boran Zaza, Kurdish classical pianist and arts administrator
Boran Zaza was born in Qamishlo, Syria, and grew up in Iraq. She studied piano in Lebanon and later at McGill University in Montreal. She performed professionally at prestigious venues in Canada, Iraq, Lebanon, Oman, Dubai, Italy, and the United States. Conductor Paul MacAlindin called her “one of the most talented and motivated musicians to come out of the Kurdistan region of Iraq.” She then transitioned to arts administration. Currently based in Montréal, she is director of communications and development at Orchestras Canada. In this clip she performs a song for Newroz. Visit her website.
