On January 17 the trailer for the film Sur’da Devran (Fate in Sur) was released.
Directed by Haşim Aydemir, the film is set in Diyarbakir (Amed) in the 1990s, inside the walled city of Suriçi. It tells the story of three young Kurdish men who belong to a local youth subculture and who fly doves and race them as a hobby. The cast includes the former HDP MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder and the noted Kurdish actor Nazmi Kırık. The film uses both the Kurdish and the Turkish languages.
Suriçi was destroyed during the Turkish state’s military operation in 2015-16.
More information is on the film’s Instagram page.
