NYKFF on CUNY-TV, May 10-12, May 17-19
On May 10-12 and May 17-19, CUNY-TV’s new film forum CUNY-TV Presents features the New York Kurdish Film Festival—for its premiere episode! Watch it here. (Note that the presentation has been extended to a second weekend!)
CUNY-TV is airing an interview with four leading voices on Kurdish film:
Berivan Alothman, media coordinator, NY Kurdish Film Festival
Azad Azizyan, documentary filmmaker, host of Kurdish Cinema Talks
Xeyal Qertel, executive director, NY Kurdish Film Festival
Ali Fuat Sengul, film scholar and educator, Pratt Institute.
Together they delve into their experiences as Kurds and offer their perspectives on the festival’s significance. The interview is will air at 2:00pm on each of the three days.
CUNY-TV is also airing two notable Kurdish films:
Yar (2021), a documentary about the tambours of Yarsan. Directed by Aram Hassan. Showings are at 2:30pm on each of the three days.
Lêger (Seeker), a documentary that explores the cultures and traditions of Kurdish communities in Bakûr. Gulan, a university student in Istanbul and a Konya Kurd, travels to the Kurdish areas of Kırşehir, Kayseri, Malatya, Maraş, Antep, the Black Sea region, and more. Directed by Ömer Leventoğlu and Esen Akgül Gunes. Showings are at 3:00pm on each of the three days.
CUNY TV Presents: NY Kurdish Film Festival, a collaborative venture between CUNY TV and the NY Kurdish Film Festival. This partnership aims to spotlight the works of talented emerging indie filmmakers, providing a platform for their unique voices and stories to be heard.
