Kurdish Heritage Month
Every year in March, Kurdish Heritage Month gives Kurds an opportunity to celebrate our distinctive culture. While we honor Kurdish culture every month of the year, March is special: it is the first month on our calendar, when we celebrate Newroz, the new year.
During this time, Kurds, both in the Middle East and in the diaspora, reaffirm our enduring identity and draw strength from it. We display, perform, discuss, and enjoy our shared traditions: our artistry and music, our dance, our several languages, our cuisine, our dress, and more. We participate in the customs that connect us with Kurdistan in the Middle East and with each other in the diaspora. We rejoice in our history and our many superb achievements. During this time, too, we welcome non-Kurds who wish to learn more about our culture.
