Komeleya Rojavayê Kurdistan

KomeleyaKomeleya Rojavayê Kurdistan was founded in March 2023 by a group of independent academics in North and East Syria. Based in Qamislo, the group works on Kurdish history, literature, and language.

Kurds are among ancient peoples of Mesopotamia, they explained to NYKCC in an interview in November 2023. “We want to work with Kurds as a people with a great and rich history.” Concerned with cultural preservation, the group believes that Rojava’s many historical monuments need to be studied, preserved, and restored.

To celebrate the NYKCC’s 2024 edition of Kurdish Heritage Month, the group produced this video to introduce themselves to you.

The association seeks “to lay the intellectual foundations and establish the infrastructure for Kurdish cultural independence in the artistic, literary and critical fields, by raising awareness of identity and collective rights, preserving the Kurdish language as a basic component of identity and ensuring access to its knowledge, and providing a communicative space for knowledge exchange and production.” They further seek to develop initiative-taking youth, educated and aware of its identity and its societal role.

They are working on a historical documentary about the ancient Hurrian people, about their culture and history and lifeways. They are focusing on the two main historical sites, Mozan and Labada in ancient Urkesh.

They wish to build communication and cooperation with Kurds in all parts of Kurdistan and in the diaspora. They also wish to be in communication with universities in Europe and America that are interested in Kurdish writing and research.  Please contact them at komeleyarojava@gmail.com.
