Fundraiser: Bê Welat
FiveMyles Gallery in Brooklyn, New York, will host a contemporary Kurdish art exhibition between January 6 and February 4, 2024.
bê welat: under the lost island is an independent art project curated by Engin Sustam and organized by Pinsapo Collective. Bê welat means “without a homeland” or “stateless society” in Kurmanci.
The first installation of the project took place in Berlin in 2021 with more than twenty participants. It highlighted contemporary Kurdish art in the European diaspora. The Berlin exhibition was the first of its kind on a global scale, and the group is now bringing it to New York.
The exhibition will showcase artwork by seven contemporary Kurdish artists, connecting a cross-border network of artistic production. Voices, bodies, objects, concepts, and standpoints emerging from Kurdish experiences will be presented through gender-conscious, micropolitical, ecological, and decolonial lenses.
Pinsapo is now holding a fundraising drive for this project. They need to raise $15,000. If you would like to help, visit the GoFundMe page.
