Director Rêger Azad Kaya greets NYKFF7
NYKFF7 is thrilled to be screening the film When the Seedlings Grow by Rêger Azad Kaya this coming October. The director has sent his greetings to the film festival—you can watch the video here! It’s in Kurmanci with English subtitles.
Rêger Azad Kaya was born in 1992 in Agiri (Ağrı), North Kurdistan (Turkey). He studied radio, television, and cinema at Akdeniz University in Antalya.
Initially Rêger Azad made travel documentaries for Kurdish TV. Then he moved to North and East Syria and worked as a cinematographer and editor on short films. As an actor, he had a leading role in the film Ji Bo Azadiyê (2019). He worked as an actor and as casting director for the film Kobanê (2022).
He directed his first feature film When the Seedlings Grow (Gava Şitil Mezin Dibin) with the Rojava Film Commune. He continues his cinema work in North and East Syria.
