"Comrades of Jîna Amini"

Comrades of Jîna Amini is a short animated film created by the underground collective Dilan Pepule Azadî, a group of women and artists in Rojhelat (East Kurdistan).

The collective affirms the spirit of resistance in the popular uprising sparked by the killing of Jîna (Mahsa) Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian Kurdish woman, for allegedly not wearing her headscarf properly. The uprising challenged the tyrannical Islamic fundamentalist regime under the slogan “Jin Jiyan Azadî.”

The collective made the film to support the campaign by the Green Left Party (Yeşil Sol Parti, YSP), which is running in the upcoming May 14 Turkish general election. The YSP is the electoral vehicle through which the HDP will participate. The HDP is forced to take part by this indirect means due to the Erdoğan regime’s intransigent repression of the party.

The collective wanted the film “to salute the struggle of the Green Left Party and it is in this context that we launched the animated film Comrades of Jîna Amini.”  They affirm that the liberation of women is at the heart of all true struggles for human liberation today. The film closes with the message “Em rêhavalê Jîna Amînî ne” (We are Jîna Eminî’s comrades).
